It was nearing mid-night and I was walking with Pappu. We both were holding big plastic bags in each of our hands. We had reached Karukapally junction. We have walked around 2 Kms, and still has to cover around 1 km. Felt like the darkness around is the reflection of my mind. It was cold night, but the cold was not affecting our body. We haven't talked since we left Aadarsh's house. One of the bag I was holding contained boiled eggs and the other biriyani rice. Pappu's was chicken legs and biriyani rice.
Pappu was the first to break the silence. He said 'Should hit Aadarsh's head. Why he had to bring all those to his home?'
I said 'hmm..'
He continued, 'If he had to bring, then should have arranged the party after the dinner.'
I said 'hmm..'
Pappu, 'And did you see what he was doing, he was not ready to accept his guilt. He stormed out of the house. He didn't even think about us. *****'
I said 'hmm..'
Pappu didn't speak after that. I was not interested in continuing the conversation. It was like my tongue had freezed.
I re-collected the incidents leading to this.
It was Aadarsh's house warming ceremony, and we had reached 'quarters', the day before. All in his family were staying at his new house, as the Pooja was over. The function was scheduled for next day. As his old house, the quarters was vacant, he had asked all of us to come a day earlier and arranged for a booze party. All arrived by evening, me, Jinu, Boney, Pappu, Anoop, Sachin and Prasanth@. We had a very good time, boozing out, watching movies. Really enjoyed a lot. Partying till 2 @ night.
Next morning the lady who supplies milk called out from the gate. Aadarsh's dog was let loose, and so I couldn't go out and she can't come in. So I woke-up Aadarsh. He went to collect the milk. On the way out he hit his room's door, he regrouped, and continued. He again hit the front door on the way out. That high was the effect of our partying.
We all went attended the function. All were feeling sleepy, but enjoyed a lot, coz it was one of those rare occasions when all of us, The Naughty Nine, were present outside the college. After lunch we went to the quarters. Aadarsh requested all to stay back. But except Pappu and me, all went home. [We were the ones destined to witness the drama about to unveil that night]. As we were tired we went to sleep. By evening Aadarsh woke us up. He said, he was going to give treat his friend near his home. He wanted us to join. His friends also called us. But, as we were very tired, we rejected the offer, and decided to continue our sleep. It was the best decision we took on that day.
Aadarsh said, 'So, you people carry on with your sleep. I will come back by 8, and we will go to my home to have dinner.'. He left saying that and we continued our sleep.
As he said, he came by 8. We got ready and went to his home. Aadarshs other friends, who were there for Aadarshs evening treat, were also with us. When we reached his home, Aadarsh's fathers senior and his family were there. And they were having dinner. So we all gathered at the sit-out and started to cat. In the mid-way Appu made a stupid coment, and all burst into laugh. The noise was too much. Pappu and I looked at each other. We felt things are not alright.
Aadarsh's, brother Hari, came out and told Aadarsh, that they being disturbance to the other guest. Aadarsh said, he will take care of it and Hari went back. But nothing happened, the shouting and laughing just increased. After 5 mins, Aadarsh's, Dad's collegue and family went. And Aadarsh went in. He came out after another 5 minutes. From his face, it was obvious that things were not alright. Others also sensed the same.
We got to know that, his Mom was not happy with the way we all behaved. She was scolding Aadarsh for that. Aadarshs other friends felt the condition was not right and some of them left. Now Pappu, me, Lajith and 2 others remained. Now that increased the anger to Aadarsh's Mom. Aadarsh has asked to keep food for 15-20 people. And now only 5 are there. Food was from the after-noon's function. She could have distributed the food to their neighbors. She was furious and started to shout at Aadarsh.
Lagith and the others had food. After the dinner, Lagith went to Aadarshs mom.
He said, 'Mother, we had a party and we are little drunk. Sorry for that'.
With that he fell on her feet. She was spell-bounded. He stood up and went out. Now Aadarsh started to shout at his mother for behaving badly to his friends. (We felt from the way Aadarsh was talking, as if, it was Aadarsh's mom who is drunk, and its she who spoiled the occasion). And with that he stormed out. We both at the dining table. It was a good dinner. We were not enjoy the dinner, but were swallowing the food as to finish it. All these time, Aadarsh's Mom was complaining about him to us. His sister also has joined. She also was complaining about the food that will get wasted. So we came-up with an idea, that we will take the food to quarters, were the fridge still is, and will keep the food in it. So they started to pack the food.
'What the **** were you doin there? !@#$%^&*' Pappu was shtouting at Aadarsh. We had reached quarters, and there he was sitting in front, waiting for us. Seeing him, Pappu had started to shout at him. We thought Aadarsh will be sorry for what has happened. But in-turn he was still furious at his mother. And he started to complain about her and the way she behaved to his 'friends'..
We told him what all happened after Aadarsh left home and what his father told. It had happened like this: Aadarsh's mom was continuing the complaining. All of a sudden, Aadarsh's father came from his room. He said to his wife, 'There is no point in talking about it now. You should have scolded him when he used to come home late and drunk. You didn't do anything then. '
She replied, 'I didn't knew, he used to drink'.
He said, 'Don't lie, You knew it already. And you knew it well. If you don't, then why do you think, he comes home late? Why do you the think, he comes home only after every one has slept? So stop complaining. And leave these kids. Its already late.'
With that his Mom stopped talking. We could see tears running down her cheeks. She packed the bags and gave it to us. And we left to quarters on foot.
Aadarsh was surprised on hearing this. It was a great shock to him. He had believed that, his father never knew about his deeds. He also stopped talking.
PS: Next day morning, Aadarsh went to Prasanth's home. They, Pappu, Aadarsh and Prasanth, went to Wayanad,(Prasanth had an estate there) as it was our study leaves going on. Aadarsh never informed his home about his trip or what he was doing. It was Prasanth, who called Aadarsh's home frequently and informed about their trips and all. He went back home only after around 20 days. We all thought it was because he was still angry with his mother, but in reality he was ashamed to face his Father.
